Whenever Dave and I make a parenting mistake that negatively impacts E-man, we call it a "rookie mistake" since this whole parenting thing is new to us. "Rookie mistake" examples include putting him to bed too late when he's overtired, forgetting to bring his water when we're on a walk, giving him formula that he's allergic to, singing a song he doesn't like, being in his way, etc. Once we make a mistake we say, "ROOKIE MISTAKE!!" and E-man usually smiles and forgives us. His smiles may have something to do with how we say it.
We know we will make a lot more parenting mistakes with E-man. We continually ask God for wisdom and patience, among other things, to raise our little boy. It's weird to realize that we can say "rookie mistake" for Elijah's whole life!
