"The Wife"

It amazes me how many male co-workers refer to their spouse as "The Wife".  "The Wife" has such a negative connotation, not respectful and does not make her sound cool.  Why not "my wife" or refer to her by her first name?

I talked to the hubby about it today and thankfully, he doesn't refer to me as "The Wife" at work!
